98 Leaders, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will join in a weekend of themed activities with Cubs and Scouts camping for 3 nights.

It was a great evening organised by Anne and Sharon and a great time was had by all. Not least by Callum who won a bottle of whiskey after getting the nearest to the bottle rolling a 50p and Simon who won a much needed Tesco voucher to help with food supplies. Joe won a £10 M&S voucher and he promised to give that to his Mum!!

Suprised winners of the event were team “Lost Cause” – made up of Nicki, Paul, Rachel and Ian – and they won a £25 prize donated by a local firm.

Wednesday Scouts collected just over £105 which will help towards their costs at their Marlow kyack camp in July whilst Thursday Scouts made nearly £90 towards camp funds.

The Cubs section formed part of the Cubjam 2013 District team and their 3 hour stint pulled in a massive £485 which will go some way to helping to reduce the camp costs. Cubjam is a week long event in May 2013 where Districts 60 stong cub contingent will attend a fun packed national Cub camp at Gilwell. Over 25 Cubs from KD9 will form part of the District attendees along with Rachel and Emily.

We had three sessions at the 2011 Xmas bag packing event at Sainsbury’s and Morrisons and we were extremely busy.

However, the hard work was really worth it and we raised just over £1,000 for our Group funds. This was a welcome increase on other years and goes along way to help keep costs down for parents and for leaders to provide a balanced programme throughout the year.

Thanks to all the youngsters and leaders for helping and to the shoppers from Sainsbury’s and Morrisons who made such great donations.

KD9 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have got their camping season off to a flyer with a number of events starting in early February.

Thursday Scouts start off with a chilly walk and camp under canvas on 11th Feb at Rhydd. Wednesday Scouts will follow when the weather gets a bit warmer at the end of March, possibly at Kinver or Blackwell.

At the start of May, the Group are camping as a whole with over 90 campers at the District Camp, also at Rhydd, during the bank holiday weekend. The Beavers are taking part in their first ever camp under canvas on the Saturday night.

To cope with the massive take up at this camp which has been partly funded with a generous cash donation of £1,000 from the County Council, the Group are subsidising the camp fees by a third and have invested in over £1700 of new tents. These new tents will replace some of those old ones coming to the end of their camping life.

In June, KD9 Cubs will form a large contingent of the sixers and seconders District cub camp at Blackwell near Bromsgrove and over the weekend of 13 and 14th July Wednesday Scouts are venturing to Marlow in Bucks to camp by the Thames and also to take their stage one Kayaking course.

September will see a KD9 cub camp – venue yet to be decided and I am sure one of the sections will camp over Plod weekend in October.

That means each Cub and Scout in KD9 will get the chance to have up to 8 days under canvas this year – it’s going to be very busy.
